Great Places to Drink - Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats

I'm always on the lookout for great places to drink beer and I recently had a chance to visit a Mecca for craft beer lovers in the northeast: the Dogfish Head Brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

This was the place where Dogfish Head began, with beers being brewed for this restaurant/bar. The brewery took off from there and now distributes to over 25 states and is the subject of a TV show, a documentary film, and the love of beer drinkers everywhere.

I've always been a bit lukewarm on Dogfish Head's beers. I don't doubt their quality but I'm not a huge hophead so their legendary IPA's are lost on me.

Now, all that having been said, this is an amazing place to have a beer. It's not just historic but it's history in the making. A small scale brewing operation takes place right next to the bar, easily viewable behind glass windows. Every day there are brand new beers brewed there and sent directly to the taps inside the bar.

On this day it was a light Saison called Zeno, a hoppy Pilsner called My Antonia, the crazy dry fruity Black & Red, and Sah'Tea, an interpretation of a 9th century Finnish beer recipe (that was actually incredibly drinkable!)

The beer list also includes upwards of 20+ Dogfish Head offerings including the popular IPAs, Aprihop, Raison, and more. There's food too! The menu is limited later at night, but pizza is served until Delaware's last call at 1am. The full menu is also served on a sweet outdoor patio.

Regardless of if you're only a casual beer fan looking to check out some history, a seasoned drinker hoping to try a rarity, or just a tourist showing up for a tasty meal in a unique atmosphere, Dogfish Head's Rehoboth Beach brewpub certainly fits the bill. Truly a great place to drink!
